We're not tied to one brand

We install three brands because three different customers have three different needs. What's right for a new-build with future EV plans isn't the same as what suits an existing Enphase system, and neither of those is necessarily right for someone who just wants the most recognisable name on the market.

Our estimators will ask how much power you use, what your existing setup looks like and what you're trying to achieve. From there, we'll recommend the battery that fits, not the one with the highest margin.

Things to consider

How to think about battery sizing

Most people assume bigger is better, but that's not always the case. A battery that's too big for your actual usage is money you'd get back faster by spending it elsewhere. A battery that's too small won't see you through the evening peak, which is the whole point of having one.

Here are the questions we ask when we're working out what size system suits a home. Worth having a think about them before your site visit, so the conversation moves faster.

How much power do you use after dark?

If most of your usage is evening and overnight (kids home from school, cooking dinner, running AC), you need a bigger battery to cover those hours. If most of your usage is during the day, a smaller battery may be plenty.

How reliable is your grid?

If you lose power often, a battery with backup capability is a real quality-of-life upgrade. If outages are rare where you are, backup matters less and you can optimise for cost savings instead.

What's your solar feed-in tariff?

If your energy retailer pays you a decent rate for exported solar, self-consumption matters less. If your feed-in tariff is low (which is increasingly common), self-consumption via a battery pays back faster.

Are you planning for an EV?

An electric vehicle can double your household power use overnight. If an EV is on the horizon, it changes the sizing conversation significantly. Worth raising this early.

Rebates and incentives

You'll see a discount on your quote

There are a few schemes running right now that reduce the upfront cost of installing a home battery. The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries program. The NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. And Small-scale Technology Certificates, or STCs, which most people have heard of but don't quite understand.

The short version: STCs are certificates your system generates based on its size, zone and install date. We handle the paperwork and apply the value as a discount directly on your quote. You don't chase anything, you don't claim anything back later. It just comes off the number at quote time.

The exact amount depends on your system and the current STC market price, which is why we don't quote a specific figure up front. Our estimator will work through the numbers with you when we visit.

Keep the lights on when the grid goes down

Most batteries quietly save you money in the background. The other thing a battery does, the one people really notice, is keep your home running when the street loses power.

Not every battery and inverter setup includes backup, and the way it's wired matters. We'll talk through whether you want whole-home backup or just the essentials, and set it up so it switches over on its own.

Switches over automatically

When the grid drops, a backup-enabled battery takes over in a fraction of a second. Most households only notice a brief flicker.

Your essentials stay on

Fridge, lights, internet and medical equipment keep running, so an outage is an inconvenience rather than a problem.

Recharges from your solar

Through a longer outage your panels keep topping the battery up by day, so you're not relying on a single charge to see it out.

It depends on how much power you use and when you use it. Our estimators will look at a couple of recent power bills to understand your usage patterns, then recommend a size that makes sense. Bigger isn't always better, it depends on your situation.

It depends on the age of your switchboard. Newer boards, roughly 2020 onwards, usually don't need an upgrade. Older boards often do, since modern battery systems have requirements they weren't built for. Either way, it's exactly what the site inspection checks. If yours needs upgrading, we'll include it in the quote upfront, and our qualified electricians handle the work in-house.

Often, yes. It depends on the compatibility of your current inverter and system. Our estimators will go over it with you at the site visit and let you know whether your existing setup works as-is or if something needs to change.

Not always, but sometimes. It depends on how much power you use and how much your current system generates. If your panels are already feeding your battery well, you may not need to add more. If usage is high, more panels can be a smart addition. We'll work through it at the quote.

Yes. Home batteries are weatherproof and designed for outdoor installation. That said, in some cases it's more optimal to put them undercover, in a garage, carport or shed, to extend their life and keep them running at peak efficiency. We'll advise the best spot at the site visit.

Cost varies a lot based on size, brand and what the install involves. That's why we arrange a site inspection before quoting. It lets us spot anything that could affect price early, so the number you get is the number you pay. No surprises on install day.
