Solar-integrated charging
Plugging your car into the wall and drawing from the grid works fine, but it's not the whole picture. If you've got solar or a home battery, there's a much better way to do this.
A properly set up smart charger can charge your car from excess solar during the day, or pull from your battery when the sun's down, or only run at off-peak rates overnight. You decide how your car gets powered. We set it up so it works the way you want it to.
This is the bit most installers skip over. It takes some proper thinking about your whole setup, your usage patterns, and how the pieces need to talk to each other. Our estimator will walk you through the options when we visit.
Your car only charges when your panels are producing more than your home is using. Zero grid draw, zero cost per kWh.
When the sun goes down, the car can still charge from your stored solar. Great if your car's home overnight and you don't want to touch the grid.
Set the charger to run only when electricity is cheapest. Combine with solar-first and you'll never pay peak rates to fuel your car again.
What to expect
If you're new to all this, the whole EV charging thing can feel like it needs an engineering degree. It doesn't. For most homes, it's a few hours of electrical work and then you're plugging in every night like you plug in your phone.
Here are the three things that actually affect your setup. Worth having a read before your site visit so the conversation moves faster when we get there.
Most Aussie homes run on single-phase, which gives you a solid 7 kW charge rate. That's roughly 40 to 50 km of range added per hour, which is plenty for overnight charging. Homes with three-phase power (more common on newer builds) can charge at up to 22 kW, which is twice as fast again. Your estimator will confirm which you've got.
The charger needs to be wired back to your main switchboard. Older boards sometimes need upgrading to handle an EV charger safely. If yours needs work, we include it in the quote. Our electricians handle it in-house, so no juggling multiple trades.
Usually a garage or carport works best. The further the charger is from the switchboard, the more cable we need to run, and longer runs affect the price. Our estimator will look at the best spot and talk through the options at your site visit.

Most homes are fine with a 7 kW single-phase charger. That gives you around 40 to 50 km of range added per hour of charging, which is plenty for overnight use. If you've got three-phase power, we can fit an 11 kW or 22 kW charger for faster charging, but for most daily drivers it's overkill. Our estimator will work out what suits your usage.
Sometimes. EV chargers need dedicated circuit protection, and older switchboards often don't have the capacity or the right gear to handle it safely. If yours needs upgrading, we'll include it in the quote upfront, and our qualified electricians handle the work in-house.
Usually yes, but there are more hoops. Strata approval, electrical access, shared parking, metering arrangements, all of it needs working through. We've done plenty of these and know what's involved. If you're renting or in a strata property, it's worth a chat early so we can tell you what you're up against.
A straightforward residential install is usually done in half a day. If we need to upgrade the switchboard, run a long cable back from the garage, or work around strata access, it can stretch to a full day. Your estimator will give you a clear timeframe after the site visit.
Yes. With the right charger set up properly, your car can charge only when your solar is producing excess energy, or pull from your home battery, or run overnight on off-peak rates. Most installers don't set this up properly out of the box. We do. Ask your estimator about solar-integrated charging.
The charger itself is only part of the price. Install cost depends on the switchboard, the cable run, whether any electrical upgrades are needed, and which charger you're going with. That's why we do a site visit before quoting. The number you get is the number you pay.

An estimator visits to look at your switchboard, check your power supply, and figure out the best location and cable run for your charger.
You receive an itemised quote covering the charger, the install, and any electrical work required. No surprises, no hidden fees.
Our electricians install the charger, handle any switchboard upgrades, and commission the unit. Most residential installs are done in a single day.
Before we leave, we'll walk you through the charger's app, set up your charging schedule if you want one, and make sure you're comfortable using it.
