Solar Hot Water Rebate downloads

As part of its environmental commitments, the Federal Government is offering rebates to individuals who produce energy from renewable sources or displace energy usage from non-renewable sources. Solar hot water systems are included in this program.

Factors such as your location plus the model, tank volume and generating capacity of your solar hot water service will determine the full REC value.

A renewable energy certificate (or REC) represents the value of 1Mwh of electricity and is calculated based on a ten year system service life. The value of a REC is not fixed and varies due to market forces.

Once created RECs can be traded, purchased or sold, thereby making a solar water heater installation cheaper for the owner.

Your EcoSmart dealer will look after all this for you and pay you the current market price for your REC. And with EcoSmart systems being the most efficient (when compared to equivalent capacity systems) you’ll have the additional reward of receiving the highest RECs values.

Federal Government Rebates

The Australian Government currently offers a rebate of $1,600 to eligible applicants to offset the upfront costs of installing a solar hot water system in an existing home. To qualify for this rebate, you must satisfy certain criteria such as home ownership and system specifications. The rebate can only be claimed by applying to the Department of the Environment and Water Resources Australian Greenhouse Office in writing within three months of installation.

Full details of eligibility are provided in the program guidelines, however key criteria are listed below.

To be eligible for the rebate, a hot water system must:

Eligible households- The dwelling where the hot water system is installed must be a principal place of residence.

State Government Rebates

Selected state governments within Australia also offer rebates to households installing solar hot water systems.

The Government of New South Wales Hot Water System Rebate Program provides rebates of up $1,200 for the installation of eligible solar water heaters in residential properties.

Part of a broader scheme to reduce the state’s energy consumption requirements, solar hot water systems carry a special status whereby the rebate is calculated based on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved, determined by the eligibility of your system for RECs.
In general, the new hot water systems must:

*Replace an existing electric hot water system
*Be for residential properties in NSW only
*Be purchased in full and installed between October 1, 2007 and June 30, 2011
*Be installed by a licensed plumber
